The latest news and announcements from the University System of Maryland at Southern Maryland.
We all start our correspondences these days with “I hope you are well,” but it is indeed a heartfelt sentiment even if common. As part of the University System of Maryland, managed by the University of Maryland, USMSM will maintain a couple protocols as we emerge from our isolation.
In the words of Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Over the last year and a half, our nation has experienced profound change. With social justice issues coming to light and a global pandemic affecting every facet of our lives, there’s no doubt our workforce is dramatically transforming to meet the “new normal.”
Progress continues on construction of the new Southern Maryland Autonomous Research and Technology (SMART) Building at the University System of Maryland at Southern Maryland (USMSM). This $86 million, 84,000-square foot academic and research facility, slated to open in Fall 2021, will be transformative for USMSM and for the broader Southern Maryland region.
University System of Maryland (USM) Chancellor Jay A. Perman has appointed Eileen Abel, PhD, as executive director of the University System of Maryland at Southern Maryland (USMSM).
Dear USMSM community, We are pleased to announce that USMSM has officially resumed limited activities at our facility. Our Return to Campus (RTC) Plan was approved by the University System of Maryland (USM) and reviewed by the St. Mary’s County Health Department which stated our plan was “well thought out, efficient and comprehensive.” Our plan in its entirety can be found on our website.
